On 27th May 2011 the Department of Theatre, Film and Television hosted its 2nd Annual Postgraduate Symposium, the first to be held since taking up residence in its new state-of-the-art building. The event was an opportunity for several postgraduate students, from Leeds and Manchester as well as York, to present their research as well as field questions and fuel debate.  A diverse and eclectic range of papers were presented covering aspects of British film,  contemporary theatre practice, adaptations, and the use of music and sound in theatre and film.  From the theatre-making of Forced Entertainment to the cinema of Shane Meadows, delegates were treated to some truly fascinating material, before the day was rounded off with an enthralling closing lecture from award-winning documentary film maker David Hickman.
