Neil Hillman wins RTS award for his work.

One of our PhD students, Neil Hillman, has won the Royal Television Society Midlands Centre Best Production Craft Skills Award for the film Handle with Care, starring Josie Lawrence. The film also won Best Film.

The ceremony was held on Thursday November 4th in the University of Birmingham's Great Hall. The awards were presented by Heart FM’s Ed James and Channel 4’s Emma Willis. The photo shows Neil collecting his award from Bob Warman, presenter of ITV Central news.

Dorothy Hobson, Vice Chair of the RTS Midlands Centre and one of the judges in the Short Film category, said: “When I saw Handle With Care I knew immediately that there was something special about the sound. Despite the sophisticated sound design, the mix was extremely clear and technically accurate.”

Neil is a professional sound designer, who has joined the Department of Theatre, Film and Television to enhance his skills by studying for a PhD by Creative Practice in Sound Design.

You can hear more of Neil's sound mixing work next Wednesday, November 10th, at 19:30 in a documentary for the series 'The History of The World', BBC4
