Yvette's Story

Name: Yvette
Course: MA Postproduction with Visual Effects
Graduated: 2012
Current role: Visual Effects Coordinator, GSP Studios, York

The modules are well designed and the facilities are excellent.

What course did you do and what year did you graduate?

I graduated in 2012 with an MA in Postproduction with specialisation in Visual effects.

What is your job now?

I’m working for GSP Studios as a VFX Coordinator.

What did you do before applying to TFTI?

I was an undergraduate from Communication University of China.

Why did you decide to do a Masters degree?

At that time I was planning on pursuing a career in academia and was going to do a PhD after graduating.

Why did you choose TFTI?

The facilities in TFTI are excellent. It was like a dream come true to work with all those modern technologies, not to mention that there’s a cinema in TFTI. And I was told that York is a lovely and lively place to live in and it is definitely true!

What were you hoping to get out of studying here?

A better understanding of the theory behind the effects used in postproduction. As the technology and software are constantly evolving, I would like to know how and why they work. Also, of course, more practice with all the professional equipment TFTI has.

How did you become aware of the University of York?

It was recommended by a family friend who knows UK universities really well. The ranking of University of York was quite good in university league tables.

What are your career goals?

My goal was to see my name in the credits in the cinema, now it's to keep doing what I enjoy and am passionate about.

What would you say to someone thinking about studying at TFTI?

I honestly did not know what to expect (apart from the equipment) before I came. Through my study here, I've met a lot of talented students and experienced professors. It is not only beneficial to learn from all the well designed modules but also challenging to work with the best.
