The Cosmonauts

The Cosmonauts

Tuesday 24 November 2015, 7.30PM to 28 Nov 7.30pm

What would you do if you had been forgotten? If you find yourself isolated, disconnected from those you’ve risked your life for, by millions of miles of empty space.

  • Oleg and Casimir are two Cosmonauts trapped in space, sent there by a country that no longer exists.
  • Keith and Vivienne’s relationship has entered a downward spiral.
  • Nastasja dreams of leaving her life behind when a Norwegian negotiator offers her hope.

The Cosmonaut’s Last Message to the Woman He Once Loved in the Former Soviet Union is a stark portrait of isolation and unfulfilled dreams, where everyone finds themselves stuck in solitary orbit, unable to communicate and left only with the hope of an impact propelling them forward. This stunning play provokes relevant questions regarding our society and the means by which we communicate. If we strip away modern technological advancements, how far has physical human contact actually developed? Are we just merely hiding behind the façade of social media whilst slowly losing our means of basic human contact?

Third year BA Theatre: Writing, Directing and Performance students from the Department of Theatre, Film and Television perform this visionary piece written by David Greig.
