Luma Film Festival

Luma Film Festival

Saturday 30 June 2012, 2.00PM to 6.00pm

Students from the  Department of Theatre, Film and Television are gearing up for a brand new annual film festival to celebrate and champion their work. The Luma Film Festival, being held on the 30th June, will give emerging filmmakers the chance to showcase their works to industry professionals and the public. The films will be shown in the department's state-of-the-art digital cinema.

Through half a day of screenings, events and celebration, the festival is also designed to both enhance the reputation of the new department, and to provide a platform for its students to reach out to a wider audience. Films submitted for consideration range from intimate documentaries and powerful character studies, to photographic stop motion animation and fast paced music videos.

Undertaking the task of reviewing and selecting submitted films for display is an independent panel made up of well known figures from across the UK’s film and television industry. These include Andy Culpin, Managing Director of 12 Yard Productions; and Joe Walker, a film and television editor whose credits include the recent mammoth collaborative project Life in a Day and critically acclaimed drama Shame.

The Department of Theatre, Film and Television was formally opened in November 2011. Hailed as a ‘world class facility’ by Richard Deverell, Chief Operating Officer for BBC North, the department also launched Heslington Studios - its commercial arm for professional equipment and facility hire - in February of this year.
