Content Creation Masterclass
Former founder of Indie Mobile and then MD of [PIAS] Media, Seth Johnson has spent more than a decade at the intersection of artists, brands and technology, where he has produced groundbreaking marketing campaigns for the likes of Skype, O2, Reebok, Gorillaz, Oasis, Thom Yorke, Katy Perry, Imogen Heap and 2ManyDJs. Following a management buyout, he founded tech-led creative agency Strange Thoughts in 2013.
Commissions have focussed on reinventing traditional brand promotion via digital schemes including, amongst other things, a unique body-scanning dome that incorporated particle physics to recreate the movement of atoms as people danced, a thought-controlled beer-pouring robot, and the creation of a customisable pocket spacecraft to enable a crowdfunded mission to the moon.
In addition, check out the agency’s work with ALT-J, a powerful music streaming app that allowed users to access the album through Google Maps: https://youtu.be/Kg0U6n0IHwo. Davy Smith is a creative coder, designer and an interdisciplinary researcher across the Digital Creativity Hub and TFTV. After completing a BA(Hons) in Fine Art at the University of Leeds and an MRes in Digital Media at Newcastle University’s Culture Lab, Davy recently studied for a PhD in Media Arts Technology at Queen Mary University of London. His thesis centred on the development of intrinsically motivated algorithms in neuroevolutionary computation. Davy has also worked as a software developer in the creative industries, producing mobile applications for clients such as Tate. At DC Labs, Davy is researching the areas of interactive and non-linear narrative, and digital storytelling, particularly for their application to broadcast media.
Students, please note on the Strange Thoughts website that they are always looking for new staff: We have offices in Bristol, London & Milan. If you are a creator, mad-scientist, or general tech wizard, we'd love you to join our ranks.
