York is well connected through rail and road links, so we recommend that you try to use public transport where possible.

We've condensed the travel information into a handy one-page printable guide Getting to the University September 2019 (PDF , 349kb)

Travelling by train

Our campus is located about two miles from the train station.

Free shuttle bus

A free Open Day bus service will run between York railway station and Campus Central car park at the University (around two miles). Look out for our Student Ambassadors in turquoise t-shirts who will be at the station until 12 noon, or find the specially marked York Pullman buses outside the station. The buses will run regularly from 8.45am. The journey will take about 20 minutes (allow up to 40 minutes if you're travelling at peak times).

Return buses to the train station will leave from the Campus Central car park at Campus West. The last bus will leave at 4.30pm. From Campus East, please board any bus (they are free) in the direction of Campus West. We recommend that you leave no later than 4pm to make sure you don't miss the last shuttle bus.

Buses from the train station

A regular bus service (66) is also available at frequent intervals between the railway station and the campus. Return tickets cost around £3.50 per person.

Taxis from the train station

If you'd like to take a taxi from the train station or city centre ask the driver for Vanbrugh College at the University of York. The cost from the railway station is around £7–£8 each way.

Travelling by car
