About undergraduate courses
Find out more about the different courses and qualifications we offer at York.
As an undergraduate student, you’ll be studying for an academic qualification - your first degree.
If you're already studying an undergraduate degree at another university, you can apply to spend time at York as a visiting student. You could study with us for up to three terms before returning to your own university to complete your qualification.
Undergraduate courses typically involve three years of full-time study. Some courses include an additional integrated Masters year, and many have the option to add a year studying abroad or working in industry. Medicine courses are longer, running for five or six years.
Courses are delivered through a mix of lectures, seminars and workshops. Some include elements of practical training and extended work placements. Most culminate in a major project, often focussing on your own independent research.
At York, we offer over 250 undergraduate courses to choose from.

Different course types
BA and BSc
BAs and BScs are undergraduate degrees totalling 360 credits and are typically earned over three years of full-time study.
Bachelor of Arts (BA) degrees usually combine theory with creativity, whereas Bachelor of Science (BSc) degrees take a more scientific or analytical approach.
BA students can expect to submit essays, while BSc students can expect practical lab-based tests and examinations.

Integrated Masters
An integrated Masters degree combines undergraduate and postgraduate-level study into a single course, earning you a Masters-level qualification once you have graduated. Integrated Masters degrees are typically obtained over four years of full-time study.
These courses are also usually prefixed with an 'M' - for example, MBiol or MSci.
Accredited degrees
Accredited degrees are recognised by professional bodies as providing practical skills for specific industries. Many accredited degrees also give you a head start on professional qualifications which can enhance your career.
Many of our subjects offer undergraduate courses which are accredited by professional bodies.
