Application guidance
Create an account
You will need to create an account to start the application process and set yourself up as a new user. We'll then send you a confirmation email with your login details.
Completing the application form
The application is divided into manageable sections, allowing you to fill it out at your own pace. You can begin your application, save your progress, and complete it at a later time. Please note that dates should be entered in the UK format (DD/MM/YYYY).
Outline your research topic
If you're a research student, you will need to supply a brief outline of your research topic as part of your application. You will be asked to name your agreed supervisor as part of the application form.
Upload your reference(s)
- Research students need two academic references
Provide us with your referee's name and email address in your application. Make sure you tell your academic referees that we'll be contacting them. See more below:
Upload your supporting documents
You will need to provide the following documents:
- Current academic transcript
- Bachelors degree transcript
- Evidence of English language ability (if applicable)
Please ensure all necessary documents are uploaded for your application to be processed. Documents not in English must be accompanied by certified translations, along with the originals. See departmental requirements for more details.
Submitting
Once you've completed the application, please save and submit. The admissions team cannot access an application until it has been submitted.
Once you've submitted your application, you will receive a submission email. You should get a response to your application within a couple of weeks. Remember, applications are not processed until all the necessary documentation has been received.
If your application is accepted, you will receive a ‘Welcome’ email asking you to log in to your You@York account, where you can view your offer letter.
Third party applications
We will also consider applications through third party providers. If you are an adviser submitting the application on a student's behalf, you must enter your email address in the 'New User' section of the application.
