If you are attending one of our pre-sessional courses, you can live in a room in accommodation owned, managed or approved by the University if you have paid the full course tuition fees and accepted a course place.
We will try to assist all students with a room booking but may not be able to do so if we receive a high number of applications.

Applying for accommodation
20-, 15-, 10- and 5-week courses
If you’ve accepted a course place and paid the tuition fees, you do not need to apply for accommodation, we’ll send you a room offer by email.
20- and 15-week courses
As you will be arriving part way through the University’s academic year, you will be living with other University of York students studying a variety of courses at the University.
We are planning to accommodate you in a Band 1, 2 or 3 shared bathroom bedroom in Halifax or Derwent College with other pre-sessional students. Prices range from £99 to £140 per week.
We are planning to accommodate you in Band 4 ensuite rooms in Constantine or Langwith College on Campus East. with other pre-sessional students. The price is £174 per week.
Accepting your room offer
If you receive an offer of accommodation and would like to accept it, you must accept your booking by the deadline stated in your offer email.
If you do not want to live in University accommodation, please reject your room offer or email us to let us know.
Please note: If you do not accept a room booking, you will no longer be eligible for our accommodation guarantee and we may be unable to send you another room offer. If you accept a room offer you will be entering into a legally binding agreement with the University.
Your damage deposit
After you arrive, you will need to pay a £200 damage deposit in addition to your first rent instalment. Your damage deposit will be refunded at the end of your let, should there be no outstanding damage or cleaning charges.
Returning your deposit
Your deposit will be returned at the end of your let, within 28 working days of the end date of your pre-sessional booking.
If you have additional requirements, such as mobility or a medical condition which means you need a specific room type, or location, please email firstname.lastname@example.org as soon as you have accepted your course place. Please attach documentary evidence from a medical professional to support your requirement.
When you arrive
Depending on the length of your course, your accommodation booking will start on the following date:
- 20-week courses - Wednesday 22 April 2020
- 15-week courses - Wednesday 3 June 2020
- 10-week courses - Wednesday 8 July 2020
- 5-week courses - Wednesday 12 August 2020
There are lots of ways to get to the University. You can collect your room key from 11am onwards on your arrival date. If you're living on Campus West, you can collect your key up from your college reception. If you're living on Campus East, you can collect your key from the Ron Cooke Hub Reception.
Bedding and towels
Bedding and towels are not included in your rent so you'll need to purchase these separately. Please note, the beds standard and economy rooms are single, the beds in premium rooms are larger, ¾ size beds.
You can order kitchen packs, towels and bedding online and have them delivered to a Nisa store on campus, ready for you to pick up when you arrive.
