Non-guaranteed students

We will send you an update on accommodation availability after we have assisted our guaranteed students. We will try to assist you with a room booking but may not be able to do so if we receive a high number of applications.

15 week courses
Due to a high volume of applications, we cannot assist all non-guaranteed students. If you applied during the week commencing 15 April, we do not expect to be able to provide accommodation on campus and you will need to find your own accommodation. At this time of the year, it can be difficult to find rooms near campus. If you accept a course place, we'll contact you with information on how to look for your own accommodation.

Applying for accommodation

15, 10 and 5 week courses

If you’ve accepted a course place and paid the tuition fees by the guarantee deadline, you do not need to apply for accommodation, we’ll send you a room offer by email.

15 week courses
You will be accommodated with other University of York students who will be studying a different course to you.

10 week courses
You’ll be accommodated in an economy or standard shared bathroom bedroom in Halifax or Derwent College. We'll aim to accommodate you with other pre-sessional students. Prices range from £109 to £136 per week.

5 week courses
You will be accommodated in premium ensuite rooms in Constantine or Langwith College on Campus East. We’ll aim to accommodate you with other pre-sessional students on the five week course. The price is £162 per week.

Accepting your room offer

If you receive an offer of accommodation and would like to accept it, you must accept your booking by the deadline stated in your offer email.

If you do not want to live in University accommodation, please reject your room offer or email us to let us know

Please note: If you do not accept a room booking, you will no longer be eligible for our accommodation guarantee and we may be unable to send you another room offer. If you accept a room offer you will be entering into a legally binding agreement with the University.

Your damage deposit

As part of accepting your accommodation offer you will be agreeing to pay a £120 damage deposit which will be refunded at the end of your let, should there be no outstanding damage or cleaning charges. You do not need to pay this deposit before you arrive, instead you will need to pay the £120 along with your first rent installment.

Returning your deposit
Your deposit will be returned at the end of your let, within 28 working days of us having performed an inspection of your room.

Additional Requirements

Please email accommodation@york.ac.uk as soon as you have accepted your course place to let us know if you need a specific type of room due to medical needs. Please attach documentary evidence from a medical professional to support your requirement.

  • 15 week courses - Wednesday 29 May
  • 10 week courses - Wednesday 3 July
