Block Placements‌

Applications for Block Placements have now closed, if you applied, we will have contacted you with an interview date. After your interview you will hear the outcome of your application by Friday 19th May at 5pm.

Block placements are undertaken full time for two weeks towards the end of the summer term (Week 9 onwards) and are a fantastic way to experience what it might be like to work in education full time. This is also a great opportunity for students who already have PGCE offers who would like extra experience before starting their training.

When can I apply?

Applications for Block Placements open at the start of Summer Term each year! Placements are offered at primary & secondary level and once you have applied we will do our best to take your preferences into account via a short interview, and match you to your ideal placement.

In the mean time if you have any questions about the programme, please get in touch with Beth at ysis@york.ac.uk.

What does a block placement involve?

  • Attend a short interview where you will have the opportunity to let the volunteer team know why you would like to complete a placement, and what your preferences are.
  • Be in the classroom full time for two weeks, either in one classroom or on a rotation around your host school.
  • Experience the education system first hand and get a feel for what it's like to work in teaching, and the other professions offered in the school environment.
  • Undertake training from teaching experts, and reflect on your placement throughout with ongoing support from the volunteering team in Careers.
