Life Sciences mini fair 2017

Tuesday 31 October, 17.30-20.00, Biology Atrium

An event for students studying life science subjects who wish to learn more about some of the career opportunities open to them. There will be a number of stands featuring employers and organisations from areas of work including clinical trials, healthcare communications and sales, research and development, Physician Associate programme, health and safety, environment and energy.  Short talks will also run alongside the event stands.

Plus, Reed Scientific, AstraZeneca and Covance will be giving 20 minute presentations during the Life Sciences Mini Fair to discuss the types of opportunities available, what the roles involve and how to get your application noticed!  These talks are optional and start from 6:10pm.

Chemicals Regulation Division (HSE) Our primary aim is to ensure the safe use of biocides, industrial chemicals, pesticides and detergents to protect the health of people and the environment within the HSE’s and Defra’s overall objectives. HSE’s Chemicals Regulation Division (CRD) employs around 250 scientific, policy and support staff based at two locations: Mallard House, York and Redgrave Court, Bootle.

Covance provides high-quality nonclinical, preclinical, clinical and commercialisation services to pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies to help reduce the time and cost associated with drug development.  They also offer laboratory testing services to the chemical, agrochemical and food industries, and also work in toxicology and clinical trial management services.  Offices worldwide, and locally in Harrogate and Leeds.

Environment Agency (also giving a 20 min talk) We work to create better places for people and wildlife, and support sustainable development. EA is an executive non-departmental public body, sponsored by the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs.  Within England we’re responsible for:
    regulating major industry and waste
    treatment of contaminated land
    water quality and resources
    fisheries
    inland river, estuary and harbour navigations
    conservation and ecology
We are also responsible for managing the risk of flooding from main rivers, reservoirs, estuaries and the sea.

FERA is a national and international centre of excellence for interdisciplinary investigation and problem solving across plant and bee health, crop protection, sustainable agriculture, food and feed quality and chemical safety in the environment. We create and deliver integrated, innovative and expert research services and products for our partners in crop protection, chemical and animal health companies, as well as food producers and growers, manufacturers, distributors and retailers. We also support and work closely with governments, academia and leading research organisations.

Physician Associate Programme (HYMS)  The HYMS MSc in Physician Associate Studies is a two year intensive professional Master’s programme. Academic theory is blended with clinical placements, so that students get first-hand clinical experience from the outset. It is medically led by HYMS but with multi-professional input delivered in partnership with the Faculty of Health and Social Care at the University of Hull and the NHS.
