Module aims
- To provide guidance regarding expectations for MA work and advanced scholarly research specialising in British Art
- To help students make the transition from undergraduate to MA and (potentially) PhD work
- To familiarize students with principal archival, bibliographic and art-historical resources for British Art
- To introduce a range of significant methodologies and insights from the forefront of British Art
- To encourage students to adopt and adapt methodologies to suit their own developing intellectual interests and specialism
- To demonstrate how art and architectural historical knowledge and methodology develop within a community of scholars
Module learning outcomes
- To be familiar with archival, bibliographic and art-historical resources relevant to their own British Art specialism
- To be able to deploy appropriate scholarly conventions in their own work
- To be familiar with a range of methodologies significant for the art historical study of British Art
- To know how to apply and adapt methodologies appropriate to their specialism
- To be able to develop independent research within the context of previous scholarship
