Module aims

Students will be expected to understand the legislation, guidance and policy related to health and safety. They will consider the concept of risk and the factors that may contribute to it. They will be expected to carry out a risk assessment in the workplace and identify appropriate actions. 

Module learning outcomes

By the end of the module, students will be able to:

  1. Apply knowledge and understanding of the legal, ethical and policy framework within which risk is managed and reflect on their role within it including safeguarding of adults and children.

  2. Examine the nature of risk as it relates to different client groups in a variety of health and social care settings, recognising harm and abuse and the actions that need to be taken.

  3. Discuss factors contributing to risk.

  4. Analyse the contribution the NA can make to the development, monitoring, assessment evaluation and improvement of health and safety systems and policies within organisations.

  5. Recognise factors around uncertainty and be aware of factors that contribute to resilience.

Risk assessment, risk management , maintaining safety, minimising harm, resilience, identification of hazards and risk factors
