Module aims
To introduce the student to the concept of professional communication and interpersonal skills.
To explore the transition from lay person to professional in midwifery practice.
To introduce the skills of reflective writing within the context of professional practice and life long learning.
To develop self awareness in relation to the strengths and weaknesses of individual communication skills.
Module learning outcomes
This module will enable the student to:
Explore the influence of intra and inter aspects of self on communication and interpersonal skills.
Describe potential barriers to effective communication, such as the influence of culture, prejudice and stereotyping.
Explore how professional communication differs from wider communication.
Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the skills for academic writing and the concept of reflection on practice.
