Module aims
- To introduce the student to the concept of professional communication and interpersonal skills.
- To explore the transition from lay person to professional in midwifery practice.
- To introduce the skills of reflective writing within the context of professional practice and life long learning.
- To develop self awareness in relation to the strengths and weaknesses of individual communication skills.
Module learning outcomes
This module will enable the student to:
- Explore the influence of intra and inter aspects of self on communication and interpersonal skills.
- Describe potential barriers to effective communication, such as the influence of culture, prejudice and stereotyping.
- Explore how professional communication differs from wider communication.
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the skills for academic writing and the concept of reflection on practice.
