Module summary

This module will equip students with knowledge about global geomorphology and the physical environment. It will specifically focus on the Quaternary period and the processes of formation of key geomorphological environments. Students will attend lectures, field sessions, GIS practicals and a modelling practical in order to develop key skills relevant to physical geography. Training will additionally be provided in essay writing, report writing, referencing and abstract writing as well as practice in using Microsoft Excel.

Module aims

This module will give students an understanding of key geomorphology and physical geography concepts. The module will also provide an introduction to some of the keys areas of Physical Geography that will feed into the more specialised options in year 2. The Physical Geography lectures are designed to provide an overview of landforms, the formative processes and controls on these through time and space. The field sessions will introduce students to key field skills that will be used throughout the degree and allow students to work in groups using the field equipment. The practical sessions will develop the student’s GIS skills. Key skills training will be provided in writing, referencing, practical work and fieldwork.There are no charges associated with the field sessions.
