Module aims

1) introduce students to the concept of myth in a wide variety of guises

2) introduce students to thinkers on myth from antiquity to the present day

3) encourage students to think about myth in relation to literature and to literary interpretation

4) enable students to develop skills in group work and presentation in relation to a clearly defined thematic focus

  • demonstrate understanding of the idea of myth and its fundamental importance in a variety of contexts in the history of thought

  • be able to reflect critically on myth and mythmaking and how it shapes modes of thinking, including the work of the literary critic
