At your ceremony you will receive your award certificate and final academic transcript. These documents are not available until your award has been conferred upon you at a graduation ceremony. Please see below for the options available to you if you do not attend your ceremony.

A validated certificate is a photocopy of your award certificate which is stamped and signed by a University official to show that it is a true copy of the original document. These validated certificates are often useful if you are taking further study or applying for jobs. If you are not attending your graduation ceremony and would like to order validated copies of your certificate, you can do so through our website.
If you attend your graduation, you can purchase validated copies of your certificate on the day of your ceremony. Please bring your award certificate and photo ID (such as your student card) to the Exhibition Centre where stewards will direct you to the appropriate area. Validated certificates can only be ordered by the certificate holder, so you will not be able to purchase validated copies of a friend's certificate.
Validated certificates will cost £1 per copy and only cash is accepted (no card payments).
If you do not wish to attend your ceremony your award will be conferred in absentia. It is important that you still register for graduation so you can confirm the details we hold for you are correct, answer some questions about how we will use your data and to tell us how you would like to receive your certificate.
When you register to graduate in absentia you can either request your certificate to be posted to you after the ceremony, or arrange for it to be collected (by yourself or a friend).
Certificates will be available from the times listed below. Please note that your certificate will only be available after your ceremony has finished.
Your certificate will be available to collect from the Exhibition Centre after your ceremony and before 3.00pm on Saturday 25 January. From 10.00am on Tuesday 28 January 2020 the certificates will be available to collect from the Student Hub. The Student Hub's opening hours can be found on their website.
If you are nominating someone to collect your certificate for you please ensure they know when this is.
In order for us to release your certificate to another person you must have provided us with their name and student number (if they are a University of York student) or passport number during the process of registering for graduation. The nominated person will need to bring their student card or passport when collecting your certificate. Under no circumstances will your certificate be released to a person you have not nominated in advance, or to a person without appropriate photographic identification.
January 2020 Graduates you must collect your certificate by Friday 10 July 2020.
July 2019 Graduates, you must collect your certificate by Friday 11 October 2019 otherwise your certificate will be destroyed.
Your certificate will be posted in the month following graduation to the address you specify when you register.
For security reasons your certificate will be posted using recorded delivery which will require a signature. It is your responsibility to ensure that the address you provide is correct, and one at which you can accept the delivery.
If your certificate is returned to us unclaimed (eg you miss the delivery and do not collect it from the post office or arrange redelivery) or it is undeliverable because the address you provided was incorrect we will contact you via the home email address on your student record. You will be required to pay a £10 mailing fee for your certificate to be resent to you. This must be paid via the online store within 6 months.
Alternatively you can collect your certificate from the Student Hub (or authorise someone to do so on your behalf).
Your certificate will be held at the University for a maximum of six months. If you do not pay the mailing fee or arrange for your certificate to be collected within this period your certificate will be destroyed. To obtain your certificate after this you will be required to purchase a replacement certificate.
