After your graduation

Students who graduated in absentia

If you did not attend your ceremony and asked for your certificate to be posted to you it will be sent to the address you entered as your post-graduation address when you registered for graduation in e:Vision. Certificates are sent in the four weeks following the ceremony. Please allow a reasonable amount of time for your certificate to reach you before contacting us about it, especially if it is being sent to an overseas address. A final transcript is included with your certificate. Please note that certificates are sent by recorded delivery and will require a signature on receipt.

If you asked to collect your certificate (or authorised someone to do so on your behalf) it will be available from the Student Hub during office hours. Photographic ID will be required.

If you have not yet received your certificate but require proof of your award (eg to show an employer or to apply for further study) you can request a Confirmation of Award letter by emailing student-hub@york.ac.uk.

If you or a nominated person have requested to collect your certificate, it must be collected by Friday 12 April 2019.

Unclaimed/returned certificates

If your certificate is returned to us unclaimed (eg you miss the delivery and do not collect it from the post office or arrange redelivery) or it is undeliverable because the address you provided was incorrect we will contact you via the home email address on your student record. You will be required to pay a £10 mailing fee for your certificate to be resent to you.

Certificates lost in the post

We have a three month waiting period to see if a certificate is either delivered or returned to us in the mail. If more than three months have passed since the date of posting and your certificate has not been received or returned to us we will consider it to have been lost in the post. Please contact graduation@york.ac.uk and we will provide a replacement free of charge. A free replacement will not be provided if any of the following apply:

  • you provided an incorrect address
  • you changed your address after the deadline (students who register to graduate in absentia are emailed approximately one month before the ceremony to confirm the address to which their certificate will be sent and the deadline for any changes to this)
  • you did not register for graduation when asked to, and so did not provide an up to date address

Replacement certificates can be purchased via the University's document request service
