IT support for new arrivals on campus

As the new term starts, the IT Support team are here to help you with your IT queries.

During the September arrivals weekend

IT Help Points will be available on Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 September, 12 noon - 6pm in:

We will be able to answer questions and help you to connect your devices to the University network.

After arrivals weekend

The IT Support team are available Monday to Friday, 9am - 5pm.

There are a number of ways you can contact us:

Visit us: We will be offering walk-in IT support for the first two weeks after arrivals weekend. You will find us on the ground floor of the JB Morrell Library.

After that, you'll need to email or phone us with your query. If necessary, we can book a face-to-face appointment with you.

Where can I read online IT advice?

Our website has lots of useful help and information. If you are new to the University, start with reading our introduction to IT Services.

How do I connect my device to the University network?

You can connect your desktop, laptop, phone or tablet to the University network:

Can I connect my games console or smart devices?

Certain games consoles and specific smart devices can connect to our ‘mydevices’ network on campus, although some features may be limited.

Can I install Microsoft Office for free?

Yes! You can install Microsoft Office 365 free of charge and use Office on up to five different devices. The subscription remains valid as long as you are a student at the University of York.

Can I install any other software or buy IT equipment at a discounted rate?

Yes, as a student you can download some software at a discounted rate or for free.

When buying computer equipment for personal use you may also be eligible for discounts on cheaper IT equipment from our suppliers.  

Can I borrow a laptop?

Yes, we have laptops available for short term use on campus or longer loans for up to a week.

Do you provide any resources for improving IT skills?

The Skills Guides provide online tutorials and guidance on using a range of applications. You can also book a training session to develop your IT skills.
