Household Energy Grant

As a result of the increase in energy bills, the University of York is offering a payment of £150 per eligible household as a non-repayable Household Energy Grant.

Am I eligible?

In order to be eligible for a payment, households must meet all of the following criteria:

  • All-student household (regardless of fee status (Home/Overseas) or level of study)
  • The household is within the City of York Council boundary or within a radius of 40 miles of the University for full-time students and 60 miles for part-time students
  • The household is exempt from Council Tax
  • Utility bills are not included in the rent
  • All students must be registered and in active study

(Students who are distance learning or studying online are not eligible.)

Visit the University Cost of Living Hub space for additional information and support available to students.

How to apply

  • The household must identify a lead applicant who will submit the application
  • Evidence must be provided to show all members of the household are in agreement that the application be submitted. This must be confirmed at the point of application
  • Evidence must be provided that utility bills are not included in the rental charge for the household (eg a utility bill for the household address)
  • Evidence of tenancy agreement which includes all residents
  • The lead applicant will receive the payment and must ensure that it is directed towards the intended purpose, ie payment of a utility bill
