Learning and Teaching Forum

The Learning and Teaching Forum aims to bring together and support colleagues involved in teaching and learning across the University.

Seeking new Committee members

We are looking for 2 academic members of staff from each of the Arts and Humanities and Social Sciences Faculties to sit on the Learning and Teaching forum's steering committee.

The terms of reference of Forum are:
1. To work with the University Teaching Committee on celebrating and raising the profile of learning and teaching across the University
2. To provide staff-led fora for discussion of learning and teaching issues across the University
3. To nurture and disseminate creativity and good practice in learning and teaching across the University, and thereby to contribute towards a consistent culture of quality
4. To play a part in representing and referring staff views on learning and teaching-related issues, arising from the above activities, to the University Teaching Committee

Forum’s activities include the Annual Learning and Teaching Conference, a series of lunchtime workshops throughout the year, a blog and publication of the Forum magazine. These outputs are overseen by a small management committee consisting of both academic and learning support staff. Further information can be found at York Forum.

The committee meets informally twice per term. Sub-committees are responsible for the detailed planning of each of Forum’s activities, and report back to the main committee on progress.

The term of appointment is 3 years, and during this period, members are asked to:
1. Join one of the sub-committees responsible for the planning of Forum’s activities (magazine, conference, workshops, website).
2. Contribute a blog post for the website on an annual basis.
3. Chair/present a session at the Annual Learning and Teaching Conference on an annual basis.
4. Contribute towards detailed planning and hosting of at least 2 Forum workshops.
5. Contribute at least 1 substantial article to Forum magazine.

Informal enquiries can be made to the Chair of the Learning and Teaching Forum, Glenn Hurst (glenn.hurst@york.ac.uk).

Please apply via the following link with a brief outline of your relevant experience, what you will bring to the committee and your interest in joining, including which sub-committee you wish to be part of.

The application deadline is Friday 31 May 2019.

It is expected that the new committee members will attend the Learning and Teaching Forum committee meeting on Wednesday 3 July 2019.
