Karen provides strategic direction for the Building Research and Innovation Capacity (BRIC) Team provision at the University of York. Working to support the University's Research Strategy, BRIC co-ordinates and delivers training for postgraduate researchers, early career researchers, doctoral supervisors and Principal Investigators, and professional support staff aligned to research. Responsibilities include:

Karen has a PhD in Education, has published widely on assessment and is a trained coach and Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Dominika is a research development officer with a responsibility for the design, delivery and evaluation of training interventions for postgraduate researchers, postdocs and research staff. Dominika has a PhD in cancer biology and with her experience as a Postdoctoral Researcher she brings a truly devoted and enthusiastic approach to supporting academic researchers’ development.

Francina is a research development officer with responsibility for the design and delivery of training interventions for postgraduate researchers, postdocs and research staff. Before joining the BRIC team, Francina was a postdoctoral researcher in Psychology, during which time she became a Research Staff Liaison Officer where she liaised with and championed issues affecting researchers. She brings to her role a passion for supporting researchers through peer-led professional and career development.

Francina is currently on Maternity leave, which is being covered by Marianne (below)

Dr Marrianne Wilson

Marianne is a research development officer with responsibility for the design and delivery of training interventions for postgraduate researchers, postdocs and research staff. Before joining the BRIC team, Marianne was a postdoctoral researcher in History, and has a background teaching and training postgraduate students both at universities and independent research organisations. She has a real passion for sharing skills and knowledge and supporting researchers with their professional development.

Taryn Bell
Fellowship Coordinator

Taryn is the University's Fellowship Coordinator, with responsibility for coordinating support, training and community-building for Fellows and Departments. She is also the Secretariat for the Fellowship Coordination Committee. Before joining the BRIC Team, Taryn was a PhD researcher in the Department of Archaeology at York, and from this role brings experience in project management as well as training and supporting researchers. She is passionate about improving access to academia, and ensuring that early career researchers are able to make the most of their time at York.

 

Stewart Barker

Stewart provides operational support to the BRIC team's activities and is responsible for communication and social media. Stewart serves as the first port of call for all enquiries from researchers and research support staff and is Secretariat for the Concordat Implementation Group.
