Estates continue improving community relations

Posted on 30 October 2019

A team from the Estates department carried out a litter picking session on Hull Road.

On Tuesday 9 October, a team from the University's Directorate of Estates and Campus Services (DECS) were active in their continuing commitment in making a positive impact on the local area by carrying out a litter picking session in Hull Road Ward.

The team of nine volunteers, led by Dean Spears, Director of Campus Services, worked with support from the City of York Council to successfully remove a total of a dozen bin bags of litter from the streets.

This litter pick was the first that the DECS team have completed and is part of the ongoing initiative to improve community relations and to engage positively with local residents.

DECS also lead the York Streetwise project. This scheme consists of carefully selected staff working throughout the night along pedestrian routes, helping to minimise student noise, signposting emergency services, offering directions and support, and working with partners of the university including the police.

DECS will continue to build on these activities with further engagement projects, promoting positive community relationships.
