Support Climate Action: Take our Carbon Challenge

Posted on 28 October 2019

We’re inviting all staff and students to get on board and compete to see how much you can reduce your carbon footprint.

The University of York is the first UK university to take part in the Carbon Challenge initiative with the sustainability charity SOS-UK.

Part of our Green Impact Programme, the three week Carbon Challenge aims to encourage staff and students to take climate action and reduce carbon emissions, by making positive sustainable choices part of everyday life.

To participate, simply login to the link below, pick a team and start pledging. Log the steps you take each day and get instant feedback on how you’re making a difference.

At the end of the 3 week challenge the department or college that saves the most carbon will win a Green Impact Award to be presented at the event in June. Not only that, but every one who takes part will know just how much  each change has helped to reduce our impact on the climate.

It’s a simple and easy way to see how much you’re already doing to reduce your carbon footprint and to find new sustainable behaviours that you can adopt in everyday life. If you haven't joined yet, don't worry, you can join at any point in the challenge!

How to take part?

  • Log in here using your york.ac.uk email address
  • Choose your college or departmental team
  • Complete a short survey to establish your existing carbon footprint
  • Start tracking your carbon savings over the three week period

Here's how we're doing
