York Pride raises awareness of Lesbian Gay Bisexual Trans (LGBT) issues throughout the year by promoting equality and diversity and working towards the elimination of discrimination on the basis of gender identity or sexual orientation.
The Vice-Chancellor will be raising the rainbow flag to celebrate York Pride 2018. We would encourage all members of the University community to come along and show their support. The iconic rainbow colours of the flag are symbolic expressions of diversity and positivity within the LGBT community.
There will be a performance by 'Vox', a student acapella group from the Department of Music. Teas and cakes, generously sponsored by Human Resources will also be available to celebrate this event.
Date: Monday 4 June 2018
Time: 1pm - 1.30pm
Venue: Greg's Place
The University will again be taking part in this year's York Pride Parade on Saturday 9 June under a joint staff and student University banner. The parade will meet outside the York Minster at 11.15am before commencing at 12pm and will later be arriving at the Knavesmire for 1pm.
In order to show collective support, all members of the University community are welcome to take part in this family-friendly event and are encouraged to wear something green to identify the University through the parade. Free green UoY t-shirts will be given to the first 25 people attending the event.
After the parade, there will be further celebration activities at the York Racecourse, including
a science-themed stall organised by the Department of Physics.
