Academic biography

I have recently started employment as a Research Associate for both the University of York and the University of Sheffield on an ESRC funded study entitled 'Welfare Conditionality: Sanctions, Support and Behaviour Change'. The five year qualitative project will examine the ethicality and efficacy of welfare conditionality and gather evidence from a range of policy makers, frontline practitioners and service users across England and Scotland.

Prior to this research position I worked as a Senior Benefits Advisor for Nottingham City Council and have worked as a researcher for the University of Manchester, Nottingham Trent University and Hostels Liaison Group. I also taught on the Social Policy pathway of the MSc Research Methods course at Nottingham Trent University in 2010. My MSc research looked at homeless women’s coping strategies and my PhD thesis explored the role of employability in the resettlement of single homeless people. I have strong interests in qualitative longitudinal methods and debates in housing, homelessness, welfare and social exclusion.
