Profile

Helen has a background in applied health and social research; she has several years' experience conducting research in the areas of child health and welfare, criminal justice and substance misuse.

Helen is working within a team or researchers in the Social Policy and Social Work Department to undertake a project comparing outcomes for children who enter care due to concerns about maltreatment, with similar children who remain at home and are the subject of a Child Protection Plan (CPP).

Prior to joining the University of York, Helen worked at the University of Leeds on the Systemic Therapy for At-Risk Teens (START) trial; an NIHR portfolio randomised controlled trial evaluating multi-systemic therapy (MST) for children at risk of being placed in care due to anti-social and offending behaviour. Helen has also undertaken evaluations of treatment programmes for adult offenders with alcohol use problems and has conducted original research in the field of substance misuse.
