Fitness to Practise Policy

Students undertaking programmes leading to professional registration

The HCPC requires any education provider delivering professional social work education to ensure that students are fit to practise. Students are expected to act in accordance with the HCPC Standards of Conduct, Performance and Ethics, throughout their course.

This page contains guidance on the Social Policy and Social Work Department's Fitness to Practise policy, including its purpose, principles and process.  The guidance is intended as a resource for students, academic staff, placement providers, service users and other stakeholders.

The policy can be referred to for concerns regarding health and disability, and professional behaviour and conduct. It covers the period from a prospective student's application to the programme through to completion.

Any queries about the policy can be directed to

The Fitness to Practise policy was approved at Summer 2018 Board of Studies, and will be reviewed by the Department Teaching Committee in Spring 2019.
