On 7 February 2018 Professor Nina Biehal was invited to present evidence to the All Party Parliamentary Group on Children (APPG) at the Palace of Westminster. The APPG, which includes MPs and members of the House of Lords, is currently holding an inquiry into thresholds for care as the number of children looked after by local authorities has risen considerably in the last ten years. Professor Biehal presented the findings of two University of York studies on child protection services which have identified important new evidence on thresholds for placement in care and for other child protection interventions.
The inquiry follows a report from the APPGC in 2016/17, entitled 'No Good Options', which found significant variation in the number of children accessing children’s social care services across the country.
