Dr Harriet Thompson was awarded an ESRC Celebrating Impact Prize for her research into fuel poverty.

The Outstanding Early Career Impact prize recognises social scientists at the beginning of their academic careers whose research has the potential for major benefits to society, policy or business either locally or internationally.

Harriet's research focused on improving the understanding of fuel poverty across the EU. Fuel poverty is an issue which affects 54 million European households, but which wasn't seen as a major issue until recently. By developing new measures and highlighting gaps in what is known about the issue, Harriet has helped change how decision-makers address the problem.

Harriet undertook this research while studying for her PhD at York.
