This July I will be attempting to complete the Brideshead triathlon at Castle Howard (a 400m swim, 23km cycle ride, 4km run) in order to raise funds for Basis Yorkshire

Inspired by Kate Brown’s fundraising activities for Basis, in 2014 I started my open water swimming career. Unprepared and scared of eels I struggled around the mile course at the Great North Swim at Lake Windermere.

Since then I have been fundraising for Basis and this year I have decided to do something more challenging – a triathlon.

My ambition is to get around the course without falling off the bike (the bike has currently done more miles on the roof of the car than it has on the road). I have been training since April and most days seem to involve thinking about running, swimming or cycling one way or another.

I have been inspired to do this because whilst Basis has had some amazing successes, it has also been suffering from funding cuts like any other charity, while the demand continues to grow.

Basis provides an essential safety, information and support service to sexworkers living and/or working in Leeds; girls and young women experiencing sexual exploitation, and women in need of support based on their historic experience of CSE.
