Mental health needs of children and young people living in residential care in Spain

Laura will present an overview of the Spanish care system characteristics, followed by a general summary of the results of two large national studies (N=1216; N=450) aimed to find out about the prevalence and features of emotional and behavioural disorders in children and young people living in group care homes and therapeutic residential care homes in the country.

Laura is a research fellow and PhD student at the Department of Psychology (Child and Family Research Group – GIFI) at the University of Oviedo (Spain), under the supervision of Prof. Jorge F. Del Valle. After obtaining a Degree in Psychology, Laura specialized in family intervention at University of La Laguna (Spain), where she was awarded with a national research fellowship to study the use of parental web resources for families. Laura is currently doing research on transitions to adulthood of young people in care. She is a visiting researcher with the Child Welfare Research Group in the Department of Social Policy and Social Work.
