Emily completed degrees in English Literature at the University of Cambridge and English Language at the University of Sheffield, followed by a brief stint in fashion merchandising. She completed her PhD at King's College London in 2013, exploring the narrated experiences of amputation and mastectomy. She has worked on projects examining experiences of illness and embodied change, hospitalisation, and social care. Her research interests include narrative methods, sociologies of the body, and experiences of health, illness, and disability.
