International students


The Department of Sociology welcomes students from all over the world. Overseas students who come to York for undergraduate or postgraduate study are given University and departmental support to help adjust to academic and social changes.

Every student has an academic supervisor who can offer guidance academic and personal. Graduate research students have a thesis advisory panel (TAP) which monitors and supports the relationship between student and supervisor.

    A student body that represents the specific interests of the international students at York.
  • Immigration Advice Service
    Offers advice and help on immigration matters registered students or those in the process of making an application.

International student orientation

Orientation is a free programme of talks and events aimed at helping all new international students acquire an understanding of University life, UK study skills and British culture. Orientation days are in October and January.
