Toni's main research interests include the clinical and experimental history of the unconscious, psychobiology, experimentation in the psychological laboratory, and the sociology of health and illness. His most recent books include Fugitive Minds: On Madness, Sleep and Other Twilight Afflictions (Heinemann, 2003) and Servants of the Supernatural (Heinemann, 2008), a narrative history of the Victorian seance. His essays and reviews have appeared in the New Statesman, Granta, TLS and BBC History Magazine.
