Twelve PhD Positions on Pollution Monitoring in Cities

Posted on 11 October 2013

The University of York is pleased to offer 12 PhD studentships in a unique opportunity to train the next generation of interdisciplinary workers in the area of pollution monitoring.

There are 12 individual projects that make up CAPACITIE, all of which are jointly supervised across departments and are in collaboration with an industrial partner.  Three of these projects will be co-supervised by Dr Darren Reed within the Department of Sociology.

By joining the project, you will have the opportunity to work at a World leading University and to become part of an exciting research endeavor at the interface between environmental science, chemistry, electronics, and computer and social science. You will benefit from a series of CAPACITIE training courses on environmental pollution, monitoring technologies, environmental policy, smart cities and transferrable skills. You will also be required to spend some time working with partner organisations (e.g. IBM, Siemens, Arup, PerkinElmer and the US Geological Survey) and will have the opportunity to travel to the CAPACITIE case study cities in Seoul and Berlin.
