This course will help you increase the impact of your research beyond academia by harnessing the power of the media. You’ll learn how to use accessible and engaging language to describe your research, find out how to identify key target audiences for research outcomes and how to tailor your writing to reach those audiences.
This training course is provided through the University of York ESRC Impact Acceleration Account (IAA). Delivered by specialist research communications agency, Campus PR, the course will help you identify what kind of articles the media might want from you and how to produce them. You’ll find out how to generate story ideas from your research, pinpoint/target the right media outlets for those ideas and persuade an outlet to publish them by writing a ‘killer pitch’ that no editor will be able to refuse. Although the course focuses on writing for traditional and social media as a route to impact, the skills you’ll learn will also help in writing lay summaries for your grant applications.
This course is suitable for anyone actively carrying out research.
