Why I continued studying
To gain the practical knowledge and skills specific to my desired career path: sustainability consulting.
What my course is like
This programme is aimed at graduates and professionals who want to pursue roles as management consultants in the environmental and sustainability arenas. Specialist courses are delivered by both academic staff and practicing consultants, providing students with exposure to real-life case studies and a good understanding of contemporary management techniques. A key component of this programme is the completion of a consultancy project, which is usually undertaken during a placement with a professional organisation.
The course is very demanding but the practical focus and emphasis on preparing students for employment makes it highly rewarding.
How I have funded my studies
I took a year out after I graduated from York and worked full-time to provide the funds for my master's degree. I'm also in receipt of a Postgraduate Loan.
My advice to students considering further study
Have a look at the professions who work in the industry/specific roles that you want to pursue and determine whether you think further study would help your chances of fulfilling the role in the future.
