A day in the life of a Factual Department Coordinator in the United Kingdom

How I found out about the job

I asked for work experience

Where I hope to be in 5 years

I would like to be a successful television producer, and make award winning documentaries.

My advice to students considering work

Make the most of your freedom while you have it - use your long holidays to travel or get valid work experience.

What I do

I help organise our department - from keeping track of what archive footage we use, to organising shoots. I also get the chance to be involved in research and development of TV programmes

Skills I use and how I developed them

I did a postgraduate diploma in Broadcast Journalism

Degree skills:
I can manage my own time well, and am more capable of writing coherent reports and important letters.

Extracurricular skills:
I definitely improved my social skills and independence through living so far from home and being out of my comfort zone.

What I like most

Being able to come up with ideas for documentaries, and feeling that those ideas are valued.

What I like least

What would I change? I would like to have more hands-on experience on shoots.
