A day in the life of a Music Teacher in the United Kingdom
What I do
Teaching music in the classroom to children aged 11-18. I run extra curricular activities, school trips, organise and take part in concerts, help with school productions, encourage individuals in their musical development, and help those with little or no knowledge or prior interest to flourish in the classroom.
Skills I use and how I developed them
Teaching experience and PGCE.
Musical knowledge, dealing with people etc.
Musical study, volunteering in local schools in York, working on a Young People's sports course at York.
What I like most
No two days are ever the same.
What I like least
Constantly having to fight a battle to prove yourself to young people.
Courses taken since graduation
My advice to students considering work
Have a break before you get in to a career if you can!
