A day in the life of a Strategy Analyst & e-Justice Lead in the United Kingdom

How I found out about the job

Employer's website

Where I hope to be in 5 years

I hope to be promoted to Grade 7 within 5 years.

My advice to students considering work

Make sure you make the most of your time at York, join at least one society and contribute to it actively. Don't rush into a career - I took a year out to travel and then worked in an administrative role for a year before I started a graduate role within the civil service.

What I do

I represent the UK at a working party in the EU. This involves contacting policy leads and business functions to gather information on resources and our policy on various topics. I then travel to Brussels and represent our interests at the working party. I've found that personal relationships and networking are crucial to success.

Skills I use and how I developed them

On the technology and business fast stream. I had experience on the York student newspaper Nouse which helped me in the interview. I also took several short Open University courses after leaving York.

Extracurricular skills:
Team working, communication, technical skills, working with difficult people, attention to detail - with Nouse.

What I like most

I'm contributing to something that makes a difference.
