A day in the life of a Health management position in Peru
My career goals when I graduated
To work in public health services management to improve quality of care in my country.
My career history
1992-1997: Health care management in the social security in Peru.
1997-2004: Corporate Health adviser in the petroleum industry in Peru
2004-2006: Regional health adviser in a petroleum company the Middle East.
2007-2015: Founder and Vice President of the Association for helping burn kids, director of the rehabilitation center.
What has helped my career to progress
Studying at York.
Courses taken since graduation
I was trained in Occupational Health, Safety and Environment management to work in the industry.
For my work in the NGO sector, I was trained in rehabilitation of burned patients and I like most to work in the psychosocial management of facial disfigurement.
How my studies have helped my career
My studies in York, gave me strong analytical tools and paper writing skills, that have been very important in my career development.
What surprised me about my career so far
I am surprised how far I got and was not afraid to take on challenges.
Where I hope to be in 5 years
Retired, working as a volunteer in the NGO sector.
My advice to students considering work
To be flexible, to be tolerant, developing social skills and networking.
My advice about working in my industry
My advice is to be proactive, the petroleum industry is a great place to work and companies recruit staff advising positions in the web pages. There are also positions to join as interns.
Other advice
Not to forget to learn languages, preferably to be certified in project management.
