Three interviews

My career goals when I graduated

Find a career involving wildlife and do something that makes a difference.

My career history

Before starting at SE, I've volunteered for conservation charities and held research and communications positions in academia and UK charities.

Courses taken since graduation

MSc Environment and Development; PhD International Development Policy

How my studies have helped my career

My BSc at York gave me experience on a wide range of environment issues and helped show me how important being an inter-disciplinarian can be! My MSc and PhD have developed my critical research skills and more in-depth knowledge on particular issues, such as African wildlife conservation.

My advice about working in my industry

Really let your passion for the environment/nature shine through in your job applications. Qualifications and experience are important, but recruiters also need to know why you want the job.

Other advice

Volunteer, do internships, travel, attend conferences - it is such a competitive sector and the more connections you can make and experience you can gain, the better!

What I do

I lead the forests and oceans portfolios for an environmental foundation based in London. The job involves in-depth research to identify priorities and partners (to fund) for each portfolio; building up relationships with partners and others in the sector; networking; and producing written materials about our work.

What I like most

Working with amazing partners around the world.

What I like least

Hearing almost daily about the horrendous threats facing environmental human rights defenders.
