How my studies have helped my career
I undertook an MA as I was told that this was necessary to work in the sector. I think it was a huge help but volunteer experience also played a crucial role. During my job I didn't really use anything I learnt on my MA and it was not considered an asset by my employers.
My advice about working in my industry
Lots of volunteer experience in Museums, make sure you are doing something hands on. It is an opportunity to try out lots of different areas of the museum and heritage sector too, you may find you love collections or enjoy interacting more with the public on Front of House or Education.
Volunteering can also lead to contacts in the industry, which may prove useful in a competitive market.
