A day in the life of a Learner Advisor in China

How I looked for work

Since I wanted to look for a language learning related work, I first looked up language learning websites (would be too many to list here). Secondly, fill up your profile or send your CV and cover letter directly to language learning companies.

How studying in the UK affected my job seeking

Holding a master degree from the Uni of York would probably stands you out when employers are looking at your CV, however, interviews are still more important.

How I found out about the job

The recruitment process

I filled up my resume on the telf website above, the HR found me afterwards. The interview was carried out via Skype, and it has two rounds. I was interviewed by the HR and the director of my department respectively, each took around 30 minutes, and both went quite well.

My career goals when I graduated

Continue to carry out my PhD at the Uni of York, but had some financial problems, so have to work and save for tuition.

My career history

My current job is my first regular full time job for now, but I had other part time working experience. Most of them are language related, such as Mandarin and English teacher, Mandarin - English interpreter and other volunteer experiences. Details can be seen in my linkedin profile.

Where I hope to be in 5 years

Carry out my PhD in Phonetics with Uni of York.

My advice to students considering work

Be patient.

Contacting me

Language Acquisition, Phonetics, carry on further study or start to work.
All other questions are welcomed, would like to help if I could.

What I do

Assist and motivate English learners to hit their target monthly and achieve their learning goals.

What I like most

It's a freelance work, quite flexible.

What surprised me most

I thought people would be more serious in an education company like this, however, all my colleagues are nice and easy-going which creates a very comfortable working atmosphere.
