My advice to students considering work

Make the most of the opportunities offered to you during your time at University, they will help prepare you for your future career.

My advice about working in my industry

Any student interested in a career in law should try to get as much work experience as possible and attend local law fairs and legal events. Also, when talking to potential employers, make sure you have done your research!

What I do

I am an associate in the corporate team at Stevens & Bolton LLP. I advise companies of all sizes and entrepreneurs on general corporate matters and transactional work, including mergers and acquisitions and reorganisations.

Skills I use and how I developed them

Degree skills:
In York Law School, all students learn through lectures and a process called "Problem Based Learning". This is a modern technique for teaching law which allows students to actively take part in their learning and cover more relatisc scenarios than might otherwise be possible. The approach used has been very valuable in my future studies as well as in my legal career. Additionally, modules such as professionalism and ethics and taking part in the Clinic, allowed me to get a real insight into the legal world and the work that would be involved.

Extracurricular skills:
As part of the York Award, I undertook a number of courses including networking and a team building workshop. Both of these have been invaluable in my legal career so far.
