Courses taken since graduation
4 modules and dissertation
Where I hope to be in 5 years
I am starting my dissertation shortly, having completed 4 modules since qualifying as a nurse with a diploma. I hope to progress to deputy sister at some stage if a position arises.
My advice to students considering work
For nursing students, the most important aspect is to have empathy. Never take patients for granted, it could be your mother, father, grandparent or you! Also to understand that people are different and may not have the same values as you.
Skills I use and how I developed them
I have a DipHE in Nursing studies.
Degree skills:
I wouldn't have qualified as a nurse without the skills gained during my course, so these have been essential.
Extracurricular skills:
Placements in various locations as part of the course prepared me for my nursing career. It also helped that I was a little older and had worked in the voluntary sector for years before training, and that I had the life skills necessary to do a good job.
What I like most
I enjoy working with people, helping them with rehabilitation following a stroke.
What I like least
I work in a mainly female environment, which can provoke personality clashes!
