A day in the life of a Regional Services Coordinator in the United Kingdom

How I found out about the job

Already worked there

The recruitment process

Application form, covering letter and interview.

My career history

After graduating I worked with young people for four years, from small local youth work projects to large national endeavours such as NCS. I also had considerable experience in recruiting and retaining young people to programmes.

Where I hope to be in 5 years

I hope to stay at the Open University and progress forward to more senior managerial roles if the opportunity allows. It is a fantastic organisation to work for.

My advice to students considering work

Keep trying - although there are seemingly fewer jobs out there don't give up. Also don't be afraid to try something you've never done before - your degree gives you so many transferable skills that can be applied to a variety of workplaces.

What I do

As Regional Services Coordinator at The Open University, I am responsible for overseeing the upkeep and maintenance of the building, the health and safety of all employees and visitors, managing a team of Regional Services Assistants who carry out the 'hands on' work on site to keep things running and organising and running events that take place both on site and externally.

What I like most

It is extremely varied - no two days are the same. My team are also great, and I enjoy the responsibility and challenges that come with a management level role.
